During the opening of the 31st Buganda Lukiiko on August 21, 2023, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, made a passionate appeal to the courts of law to expedite the resolution of land disputes. He expressed deep concern about the ongoing evictions that have left many people displaced within their own country.

The Kabaka’s arrival at Bulange Mengo was met with jubilation from his subjects, and the traditional royal drum was sounded as part of the customary rituals performed during the opening of the Kingdom Lukiiko sitting. The Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, alongside the princes and princesses of Buganda, accompanied him.

Members of the Lukiiko, including newcomers, attended the sitting, while others followed the proceedings from the gallery. The new ministers expressed their gratitude to the Kabaka for the opportunity to serve the Kingdom.

In his address, the Kabaka emphasized the need for a swift resolution of land cases to prevent further evictions and displacement. He also encouraged Baganda to engage in agriculture, despite challenges like fluctuating prices and limited markets for their products.

The Kabaka called upon the government to prioritize agriculture and involve students in farming activities while they are still in school.

This plea from the Kabaka underscores the pressing issues related to land disputes and the importance of promoting agriculture in Buganda.
