The President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, has firmly declared that he will not comply with the police directive to halt his nationwide mobilization tours. He categorically described the police’s order as illegal and driven by emotions, asserting that he will not pay heed to it. Kyagulanyi’s defiant stance follows the receipt of two letters of notice from the police, who have raised concerns about potential security threats during his tours.

Kyagulanyi’s countrywide tour has garnered significant attention as he attracts large crowds in various districts, with Mbarara being the starting point. However, the police have expressed fears that the sheer numbers in attendance could provide an opportunity for terrorists to exploit the gatherings.

The police, through their spokesperson Fred Enanga, issued two letters of notice, with the most recent one ordering an immediate suspension of Kyagulanyi’s tours until further notice.

The NUP principal, along with his party members, vehemently rejected the police directive upon their return from Arua, vowing to proceed with their tour. Kyagulanyi emphasized that they would not obey what he considers an illegal and emotionally driven order.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Katsigazi Tumusiime, acting on behalf of IGP Martins Okoth Ochola, had earlier claimed that Kyagulanyi had violated previously agreed-upon guidelines for the tours, which were established two weeks ago. However, Kyagulanyi countered this assertion, stating that there was no formal agreement with the police, and their activities were well within the bounds of the law.
