Ugandan truck drivers have been blocked from crossing to Kenya, following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive banning all travelers from countries affected by Coronavirus. The decision caused heavy traffic at Malaba border for hours until customs officials from Uganda and Kenya engaged to resolve the standoff.

URA Eastern Region Manager James Malinzi says that the directive was given a week ago by the Kenyan government to prevent drivers from coronavirus infected countries, which Uganda was not part of at the time.

“When it comes now to time now that there is a person who has been identified in Uganda, the officials fell back to the other instruction that was given to them,” said James Malinzi.
