Overwhelming Number Of Births In Mbale Referral General Hospital

There is growing concern in the eastern part of the country. Health authorities are overwhelmed with the number of child births being handled at Mbale general hospital.

Authorities claim there are as many as 30 births in a single day at the hospital and feel overwhelmed due to shortage of staff, resources and facilities. Due to the already massive wage bill, more staff cannot be added.

A possible reason for the numbers could be that more expectant mothers are looking towards hospitals to give birth rather than in past times where more women gave birth in their homes at the hands of traditionalists.
