According to District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Erisa Mulwani, over fifteen patients were admitted on Monday night with signs of Cholera in Budaka Health Center IV  following a suspected outbreak in the area that left one person identified as Emma Gole, dead.

“Most of them are dehydrated, they are vomiting, even if they are not in the severe form but at least those signs show us that it is most likely Cholera,” said the DHO.

Other patients are fighting for their lives admitted at Nansanga Health Center III, where they have been managed pending confirmation of the cause. The DHO said that antibiotics, ORS and charcoal are being used in case of any food poisoning until the cause is properly investigated.

The locals, however, suspect that the victims could have suffered from food poisoning during a marriage ceremony in one of the villages.

The DHO added that they are currently suffering a crisis due to lack of logistical equipment including protective gear, disinfectants, food for the patients and manpower.
