Health workers in Adjumani district are grappling with the challenge of clearing a backlog of eye conditions that require specialized eye surgery.

At least 200 patients who require surgical eye operations since 2017 are yet to be operated on as the district lacks specialist ophthalmologists.

Adjumani district has two ophthalmic clinical officers who serve a population of 480,000 people comprising nationals and refugees, and the duo are eligible to carry out basic eye care and minimal surgical interventions.
