NRM Plans To Eliminate Independents

“The numbers that have emerged in parliament have been a distortion to the National Resistance Movement where we need the mass numbers or the majority to be NRM candidates, said the NRM Vice-Chairperson Eastern region, Mike Mukula.

He made these remarks following a plan by NRM to amend its constitution in the upcoming committee meeting set for January whose aim is to eliminate independents.

He said that the current constitution allows those defeated by flag bearers to stand against them. However, the party argues that this has created a large base of independent MPs in parliament which they have no control over.

The party also plans to address the contentious issue of the endorsement of lining up behind candidates as a mode of voting in primaries. Some members of the party argue that the secret ballot leaves candidates unsatisfied leading to numerous court appeals which are costly.
